March 2025 announcement:

Hi! Schmelly’s is servicing a limited number of events this year for compost pickup. We are accepting applications on an ongoing basis and require a minimum of 1 month (ideally 2+ months) lead time so we can review your requests in a timely manner. The more lead time, the more successful your event will be in meeting it’s sustainability goals such as composting.

Why is so much lead time needed? We make garden soil for food growers, and there are current health & safety risks associated with compost contamination coming from events (i.e. unacceptable plates & bowls that contain forever chemicals aka PFAs, “biodegradable” plastic utensils, glass bottles, hazardous trash, etc). We have found that successful event composting with Schmelly’s requires more lead time to allow for good review of the event’s compost sorting procedures so we can avoid contamination going into the event’s on-site compost bins and keeping gardeners and workers safe. We are committed to making the whole process better for everyone.

Please let me know if you’d like to plan for your next future event, and provide 2-3 months lead time if possible.
Thanks! –Nicola

Whether you are planning a community festival, wedding throw down, conference, holiday party, or any other gathering you dream up – Schmelly’s can help with all your composting needs.
